OSGi Residential

The residential area is one of the traditional OSGi application fields and historically the first one where OSGi was used successfully in commercial products. Recently there is fast growing number of residential projects which rely on OSGi and this seems to be a major trend, accelerated additionally by FMC (Fixed Mobile Convergence).

This training enables you to take full advantage of OSGi Smart Home environments. Such solutions facilitate and accelerate the development of products in the so-called "Smart Home" segment. "Smart Home" covers various scenarios for building home systems - using residential gateways, intelligent home control panels, tablets, advanced remote controls, media centers, set-top boxes, etc.

Some more concrete topic which will be addressed are: available application models (e.g. RCP, Web based application, etc.), providing integration/support for protocols such as KNX/Lon/ZigBee/ZWave/UPnP, realizing home automation scenarios, integration of multimedia components, device and software management, resource management, failover, and security.

The training can be customized in order to address your personal focus and for example cover the following topics in more depth:

• Uniform OSGi APIs for a wide range of residential home / building automation protocols, e.g. KNX, UPNP, EHS, LON, x10, ZigBee
• Usage and integration of a powerful automation engine
• Building smart home applications with rich GUI interface. Support for eSWT, AWT, Embedded Swing or mGUI graphical libraries and eRCP or custom application models
• Building smart home applications with a web based interface, which can be rendered on device's native web browser
• Sending notification messages to the user with status information through e-Mail or SMS
